This is heavy – Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History

Back to the Future The ultimate visual history

In October 2015 Back to the Future, The ultimate visual history was released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Back to the Future movie and the date Doc and Marty go into the future in the second movie (October 21st, 2015).

While I have a lot of friends who share my love of Back to the Future, sometimes I feel like it’s not with the same level of uh…. enthusiasm as me. So I thought maybe if I wrote a blog about the things I love I would find more people who share my level of enthusiasm or inspire them to try something new and join me in the love.

The book starts with letters from Michael J Fox (Marty) and Christopher Lloyd (Doc) sharing why they love being part of the franchise and their endorsement of this brilliant book. I was pretty excited after reading this, I really didn’t think my excitement would get any higher, but then I got to page 22. I was more excited than Doc Brown after sending Marty back to the future at the end of the first movie! I don’t like to give out spoilers so I’ll leave you with: there are some pretty cool little bonus features.

Back to the Future The ultimate visual history

The author of this book Michael Klastorin takes us through the filming of each movie as told by the people who were actually there.  He does such a magnificent job that I felt as though I was there for the creation of each film and I really gained a great appreciation of how much time, effort and love went into making each movie.
I also enjoyed the insight into the earlier filming with Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly, for so long everyone had been pretty tight-lipped about the whole experience but this gives you an insight into what it was like working with Eric and why it eventually didn’t work out.  Before reading the book I was interested to see the scenes filmed with Eric but now I’m pretty content in leaving my memories with Michael as the only Marty.

So if you love the BTTF franchise or just appreciate how movies or special effects are created, you’ll enjoy this book thoroughly. From the detailed stories to the engaging images from behind the scenes, this book ticks all the boxes, you and your kids are going to love it.

Happy time travelling
Little J
